Ystad, Olaf (14 Jan 1896 - 11 Aug 1967)
Services were conducted for Olaf Ystad, 71, Loyal, who died at 9”30 a.m. Friday,
August 11, at his home, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, August 14.
The Rev. Arvid Myhrwold officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood
cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the American Legion
Post 175 of Loyal.
The Myre Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements..
Pallbearers were Art and Carl Turnquist, Ernest Elmer and Paul Brandt, Edward
Rossow, and Norman Behringer.
Mrs. Donald Warner was the organist and Rev. Arvid Myhrwold was the soloist.
Selections sang were “Asleep in Jesus,” and I’m But a Stranger Here.”
Mr. Ystad was born on January 14, 1896, in the town of Beaver, and in his early
years as a cheese maker, and had also lived in Michigan and Milwaukee for a
time. His marriage to Elsie Rossow took place December 10, 1929, at Greenwood.
After their marriage, they farmed at Riplinger for three years, then in the town
of Beaver until 1957 when they moved to the city of Loyal. He was employed at
the Loyal Canning Company, until his retirement six years ago.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American and the American
Legion Post 175 of Loyal.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Milton, Greenwood; six sisters,
Mrs. Joe (Julia) Hecker, and Mrs. Otto (Amanda) Goehring, Loyal; Mrs. Carl
(Alma) Sheets, Curtiss; Mrs. Lyle (Elsie) Jentz, California’ Miss Ellen Ystad,
Owen; and Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Basele, Milwaukee; one brother, Ralph,
Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
