Stanley, Nellie (2 November 1892 - 28 January 1972)

Funeral services for Mrs. Leon (Nellie) Stanley, 79, of Neillsville, who died January 28, were held Monday, January 31, at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Nickel of the United Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Stanley, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Barta) Pexsa, was born November 2, 1892, at Parkers Prairie, Mn. She was educated in Minnesota schools and worked in a printing office at Fargo, N. D., and at Minneapolis, Mn, before coming to Clark County in 1919.

Her marriage to Leon Stanley took place December 1, 1920, in Neillsville. The couple farmed in the Town of Grant, where Mrs. Stanley resided up to the time of her death. Mr. Stanley died November 5, 1970. Mrs. Stanley was a member of the Neillsville United Methodist Church and of the Pleasant Ridge circle of its W.S.C.S. She also was a member of Haugen-Richmond Post No. 73, American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, Duane Stanley of Indianapolis, In, Lawrence Stanley of Marshfield, Dale Stanley of Grayslake, Il, and Raymond Stanley of Neillsville; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Spokane, Wa, Mrs. Anna Sperl of Cook, Mn, Mrs. Emma West of Chippewa Falls and Mrs. Quincy Little of Idaho Falls, Id; a brother, Bert Pexsa of Spokane, Wa; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gale Bernett, Dave Krutsch, Leo Korth, Allen Stanley, Steve Kosmosky and Calvin Gerhardt. Mrs. Edison Mathis sang, “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

Those from out of town who attended the services included Mr. and Mrs. Duane Stanley and Marjorie Stanley of Indianapolis, In, Mrs. Tony Imler of Springfield, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stanley, Robert and Rodney Stanley of Grayslake, Il, Mr. and Mrs. Theamore Vine of Granton and Mr. and Mrs. Gale Bernett of Sparta.
