Franz, Calvin (17 December 1893 - 24 January 1972)
Calvin Franz, 78, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, died January 24, in
Neillsville, where he had lived at Memorial Home since last June.
Mr. Franz, son of August and Alvina (Noah) Franz, was born December 17, 1893, in
the town of Warner. He was married September 21, 1021 in the Town of Warner to
Meta Decker. They operated a farm northwest of Greenwood until 1948, when they
moved to the city of Greenwood. Mrs. Franz died February 23, 1969. He was a
World War I veteran, a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and of the
Wallis-Hinker Legion Post of Greenwood.
Survivors are two brothers, Otto Franz of Mesa, Az, and Harold Franz of Sidney,
Mt; and a sister, Mrs. Alvin (Leona) Albert of Greenwood.
Funeral services were held last Friday at 2 p.m. from Immanuel United Church of
Christ. The Rev. Pacifico Camarin officiated. Military rites were conducted by
the Wallis-Hinker Post 238. The flag presentation was made by Kenneth Speich.
The taps bugler was Dawn Ystad. Burial was made in the West Side Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clarence Verhulst, David Danielson, Arendt Danielson, Harland
Hauschild, Gregg Rogillio and Richard Adler. The Immanuel Church choir sang,
“Jesus is Always There” and “Near to the Heart of God” accompanied on the organ
by Mrs. Walter Schwarze.
People from out of town attending were Paul Franz of Elk Mound; Duane Sievert of
Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Decker of Spencer, Karl Franz of Marshfield;
Charles Albert and Mrs. Arnold Albert of Junction City; Mrs. Vernon stuck of
Mosinee; (apparently some names were cut off from my copy).
