Green, Dever E. (28 DEC 1915 – 13 JAN 2014)
Dever E. Green, 98, Loyal, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Ministry
Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, with family at his bedside. A funeral
service was held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the
Loyal United Methodist Church. Rev. Patsy L. Roe officiated. Burial followed in
West Spencer Cemetery in the town of Sherman, with military honors conducted by
the Loyal American Legion Post 175. Pallbearers were Bill Green, Michael Green,
Richard Sinette, Rick Sinette, Frank Procopinski and Chris Jacob.
Dever Green was born on Dec. 28, 1915, in a log shanty near Stanley, the son of
William and Martha (nee Davis) Green. He attended both Otter Creek and Popple
Hill Country Schools near Stanley. He worked on the family farm as well as other
farms in the area. At age 17, he and the family moved to
Thorp until he entered the United States Army Air Corp at age 21. Dever proudly
served his country during World War II while overseas in North Africa, Sicily
and India until his honorable discharge in 1945. He married Freda Green on Nov.
10, 1947, in Pine City, Minn. She survives. They moved to Loyal where they owned
and operated a dairy farm from 1947-81. Retired from farming but not retired
from working, Dever then worked for Roth Manufacturing and E-Z Camper. They
moved to Rozellville in 1991. Dever later retired and they moved to the Otter
Lake area for a period of time before returning to Loyal where he and Freda
resided until the present. His hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, being
a greeter at
The Highground in Neillsville, delivering Meals On Wheels, driving shuttle bus
for the Marshfield Clinic, and spending time at Otter Lake. His greatest love
was the 39 years of square dancing with his wife and dance partner, Freda.
Memberships included the Loyal United Methodist Church, Circle 8 Square Dance
Club, Clark County Aging and Nutrition Program and Loyal American Legion Post
175.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Green, Loyal; one son, Leonard (Barbara)
Green, Mosinee; one daughter, Alice (Ron) Krause, Woodstock, Ill.; five
grandchildren, Virginia, Theresa, Tina, Billy and Michael; eight
great-grandchildren, Brandon, Christina, Kevin, Justin, Michael, Corben, Halie,
Owynn, Jacob and Nick; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dever was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dale; a daughter, Diane; two
sisters, Iola Sinette and Mary Procopinski; and one brother in infancy.
