Vollrath, Esther D. (3 APR 1928 – 20 FEB 2014)

Esther D. Vollrath, 85, Marshfield, formerly of Greenwood, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at her daughter's home in Eau Claire. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Greenwood City Cemetery. Rev. Rob Love officiated.

Esther Dorothy Gundersgaard was born on April 3, 1928, in Phillips, the daughter of Martin and Viola (nee DeVoe) Gundersgaard. She married Garelyn R. "Gary" Vollrath on Feb. 2, 1963. They lived in Milwaukee, Sheboygan and California during the 1960s. In 1970, they returned to Greenwood to farm, and also operated a tavern in Athens. In 1978, they bought the VSC store in Greenwood, later E-Z Wear Sportswear & Pro-Classics, which they ran until 2006. They moved to Marshfield in October 2006. Her husband passed away on Dec. 17, 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Brost, Eau Claire; one step-daughter, Patricia (Jeff) Westaby, Stanley; her grandchildren, Dustin, James, Trisha, Peter, Brian, Dawn and Tony; several great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Gene Hill, Marshfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her dog, Trixie Mae.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary; one daughter, Connie Hill; a son-in-law, Robert Ruppelt; two sons, Charlie Gray and Robert Johnson; two sisters, Helen White and Florence Umloft; and five brothers, Ted, Fred, Earl, Lester and Lyle Gundersgaard.
