Dahl, Alvin L. (23 MAY 1936 – 14 FEB 2014)
Alvin L. Dahl, 77, Loyal, died on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Ministry Saint
Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on
Tuesday, Feb. 18, at York Center Methodist Church, rural Granton. Rev. Patsy Roe
officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Cook,
Dean Hoesly, Paul Bugar Jr., Jesse Zvolena, Tom Bobrofsky, Rod Bixby, Steve Rowe
and Brad Rowe. Honorary pallbearers were George Brenner and Jim Schecklman.
Alvin Lee Dahl was born on May 23, 1936, in the town of York, rural Granton, the
son of Edward and Verla (nee Rowe) Dahl. He was raised on the family farm and
received his education in the town of York, graduating from Granton High School
in 1954. He then completed the farmer's short course at UW-Madison. Al raised
purebred Yorkshire hogs on his hobby farm, and cash-cropped sweet corn for the
canning factory in Loyal. In 1965, he began working for Tony Zupanc, at Zupanc
Motors in Loyal, as a bookkeeper and parts clerk. He married Genevieve "Jean" De
Santo on Nov. 27, 1974, in Illinois. Al purchased Zupanc Motors in 1987, and the
school bus service in 1989. He later sold the Ford dealership to Jensen Motors
in Spencer in 1994. Al continued to operate the school buses until selling the
business to Branstiter's Bus Service in 2010. He drove bus until the spring of
2011. Al entered Neillsville Care and Rehab in April 2012 and resided there
until his death. He was a lifetime member of York Center Methodist Church,
served as president of the York Center Cemetery Association for 40 years, and
was one of the organizers of the West Side Community Park in Loyal. Al had many
interests, but especially enjoyed fox hunting, fishing with his sons and
grandsons, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, being with his family,
and playing cards.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Jean, Loyal; his children, Sue (Gary
Forgeon) Ringquist, Pocatello, Idaho, James (Lisa) Ringquist, Black Creek, Dawn
Ringquist, Wausau, and David (Deanna) Ringquist, Black Foot, Idaho; one
daughter-in-law, Cynthia Ringquist, Plano, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Shannon,
Kade, Jessica, Andrew, Blake, Micah, Terrell, Laurie, Megan, Nathan, Bryan and
Ali; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Ansley, Gabriel and Ryu; one sister,
Hazel Miller, Clintonville; two step-sisters, Jeanette Steiner, Granton, and
Margie (John) Eid, Wonewoc; one step-sister-in-law, Katie Hales, Granton; and
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Greg Ringquist; one
daughter-in-law, Jane Ringquist; one grandson, Samuel Ringquist; one
brother-in-law, William Miller; two step-brothers, Bert Hales and Norman Hales;
and two step-sisters, Evelyn Dudei and Marie Hillert.
