Jakel, Vincent P. (10 JAN 1936 – 11 FEB 2014)
Vincent P. Jakel, 78, Spencer, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at
Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was
held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Christ the King Catholic Church in
Spencer. Rev. Samuel Martin officiated. Burial with full military honors
followed in West Spencer Cemetery in the town of Sherman, Clark County. Serving
as pallbearers were Robert Jakel, Jason Jakel, Bruce Jakel, Scott Jakel, Greg
Hederer and Jeffrey Strobeck.
Vincent Jakel was born on Jan. 10, 1936, the son of John and Joanna (nee
Harrington) Jakel. He attended Stetsonville Elementary School and Medford High
School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1958-60. While in
the service, he married Bonnie Cronk on April 18, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Stetsonville. She survives. He was employed at Land O'Lakes in Spencer
for 33 years before retiring in 1999. Vince was a world-class husband, father
and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with
his family. He enjoyed waltzing to polka music with his wife and children. His
hobbies included playing horseshoes for more than 36 years, pitching as many as
100 shoes a day. Vincent was a horseshoe senior state champion in 2008. He
thoroughly enjoyed his trips to McDonalds, collecting baseball cards, and
pitching softball. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee
Brewers, the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Jakel, Spencer, his children,
Jeffrey Jakel, Spencer, Debbie (Jeff) Strobeck, Roseville, Minn., Robert Jakel,
Owen, Donald Jakel, Rochester, Minn., and Laurie (Gregory) Hederer, Spencer; 16
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Garnet) Jakel Jr.,
Medford, Gregory Jakel, Stetsonville, and James (Mary) Jakel, Weston; and many
other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law,
James and Helen Cronk; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
