Halik, Josephine Mary “Josie” (4 June 1927 - 18 February 2014)
Josephine “Josie” Mary Halik, 86, of rural Black River Falls died Tuesday, Feb.
18, 2014, at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls.
Josie was born June 4, 1927, in the Town of Brockway to James and Frances (Podany)
Houd. Josie married George Halik, Oct. 16, 1947, in Neillsville, and together
they farmed on Soup Bone Road (Jackson County). Through the years, Josie worked
at G’s Café as a cook, Roma Pizza Factory and Norplex Plastics. Josie retired
from Black River Memorial Hospital in 1996 after working 22 years in the dietary
department.
Josie was a member of the Trout Run United Methodist Church. She always enjoyed
spending time with her family and friends. She loved gardening and playing 500
with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Josie had fun getting
together for coffee with her friends.
Josie is survived by her children, James (Judy) Halik of Black River Falls,
George (Rose) Halik of Albany, Alice Halik (Jerry Sparks) of Holmen and Cindy
Michaels of Grantsburg; seven grandchildren, Erik Halik, Valerie (Mike) Young,
Tiffany (Curt) Jerome, Brenda (Tim) Zillmer, Elizabeth Michaels, Aaron Michaels
and Joey (Tiffani) Michaels; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Catherine,
Matthew, Madison, and Kaylie Michaels; and Jordan and Colin Zillmer. Josie is
further survived by two brothers, Joseph Houd of Tomah and Miles (LaDonna) Houd
of Black River Falls; one sister, Lucy Brenn of Eau Claire.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband George March 29, 1999; her parents,
James and Frances; two grandsons, Travis Michaels and Bradley Halik; one
brother, James Houd.
Funeral services for Josie were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Trout
Run United Methodist Church, in rural Black River Falls, with Pastor John Paul
officiating. Burial was in the Hatfield Cemetery in Hatfield. Friends called
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Torgerson Funeral Home in Black River Falls.
Friends also called from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on
Friday.
The family prefers memorials be directed to Trout Run United Methodist Church or
Cemetery.
