Frei, Mr. and Mrs. George (26 Nov 1917 – 26 Nov 1967)

Mr. and Mrs. George Frei of Neillsville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 26, A special Mass at10:30 a.m. was celebrated by Rev. George Nelson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville.

A golden wedding anniversary dinner was held at the Wildcat Inn at Hewettville at noon on Sunday. Open house followed at the American Legion Hall from 2 to 7 p.m. for relatives and other friends.

George Frei, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Frei Sr., Neillsville. and Angeline Schuld, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Schuld, Loyal, were married at St. Mary’s Church in Neillsville, November 26, 1917 by the Rev. Peter Weber, who was pastor there at the time.

They lived in Loyal after their marriage, but their married life was interrupted for two years when Mr. Frei served overseas during World War 1. When he returned in 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Frei moved to a farm, south of Loyal, in the community then known as Pelsdorf, where they farmed until 1942.

In 1942 they moved to the Dick Brown farm in the town of Grant, south of Neillsville, Where they operated a dairy farm for 11 years. In 1953 they moved to their present residence.

Mr. Frei was born at New Glarus in Green County February 5, 1896, and came with his parents to Clark County locating on a farm in the town of York near the old Clark County poor farm in 1902. He attended Wild Rose School in that township.

Angeline Schuld was born in the town of Loyal, January 15, 1901 and spent her early years in that area. She attended Mack School and her teacher was J. R. Tomas, who is still teaching in Loyal High School. Later she attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Loyal.

The couple are the parents of six children; Mrs. Norbert (Rose) Noeldner, Loyal; Mrs. George (Lucile) Pagenkopf, Neillsville; Edward, Loyal; Leo, Whitehall; Miss Mary Jane Frei, Eau Claire: and Mrs. Robert (Georgianna) DeMert, Neillsille.

There are 32 grandchildren.

They are active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

After moving to Neillsville, Mr. Frei was employed for a number of years by the Fullertin Lumber Company. He is now retired.

Relatives and friends attended from Chicago, Illinois, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, Eau Claire, Spencer, Marshfield and Loyal.
