Bass, Josephine Helen (15 April 1887 - 4 February 1972)
Funeral services for Josephine Helen Bass, 84, of Neillsville, who died February
4, were held Monday, February 7, at 1:30 p.m. from the United Church of Christ.
The Rev. George E. Yons officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City
Cemetery. The Georgas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Josephine Bass, the daughter of Joseph and Frona McCalvy Bass, was born April
15, 1887, at Greenwood, and came to Neillsville with her parents at the age of
three. She attended Neillsville schools and graduated from Neillsville High
School and from Eau Claire Teacher’s Training. Miss Bass taught in the
Minneapolis Public School system for over 37 years. Upon her retirement in 1954
she and her sister returned to Neillsville to make their home here.
Miss Bass was a member of the United Church of Christ, Golden Link Camp No. 78,
Royal Neighbors of America, and the Minneapolis Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Lida Meyers, of Neillsville.
Pallbearers were Elliott Warlum, James Milton, George Hubing, Richard Van Gorden
and Ellis Wall. Mrs. Robert Peters sang “Rock of Ages” and “Just as I Am.” She
was accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
Those from out-of-town who attended the services included: Mr. and Mrs. Leland
Bass, Keith Bass, Mrs. Otto Anding, Mrs. Edna Breseman, Walter Roder and Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Tyler, all of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Arno Guk and Mr and Mrs. Dale
Tyler of Marshfield; and Mrs. Flora Harding and Mrs. Evelyn Anderson of
Superior.
