Haas, William (17 JUL 1876 – 14 APR 1965)
William Seward Haas, a resident of this community (Withee, Clark Co., Wis.)
since 1903, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 1965 at the Havenet Nursing Home.
He was 88 years and 9 months of age.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 Saturday afternoon from the Hoeper and
Kraut Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Goessling of the United Church of Christ, Owen,
officiated. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Art Meier, Owen Melin, Carl Jensen, Carl Vater, Charles
Hautamaki and Glenn Buchanan. Carry the floral offerings were Mesdames Carl
Vater, Owen Melin, Carl Jensen and Kenneth Mathewson.
Mr. Haas was born July 17, 1876 at Mineral Point, and in 1903 came to the Withee
area, where he has farmed most of his life. He was married twice. His marriage
to Nellie Bartell, who preceded him in death April 3, 1949, took place Sept. 14,
1904 at Dodgeville. In 1950 he married Lena Dyrson at Dodgeville. She died in
1953.
Always active in community affairs, he served on the town board of Longwood for
many years, in addition to serving on the school board of the Longwood school
district and as secretary-treasurer of the Withee Shipping Association. He was
also an active member in the affairs of the Methodist Church in Withee.
Survivors include three sons, L?, Owen; Russell, Rice Lake; and Leland, Fond du
Lac; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Katherine) Strokhi?, Owen; a brother, Thomas,
Minneapolis; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
