Mr. and Mrs. C. Healy of Unity are visiting with relatives at Eidsvold this week.

O. E. Warner came down from Ruby last Saturday and spent Christmas with his family at Eidsovold.

A crowd of thirteen spent a pleasant evening with Blazius Baumgarten and wife Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Driesen spent Christmas with Mrs. Driesen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Henke.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Flora of Eidsvold entertained quite a number of friends and relatives on Christmas day.

Mr. and Mrs. L. Bruno of Thorp were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Warner of Eidsvold last Wednesday night.

Eliot Peterson, Sam Flora and Joe Flora cam down from Ruby last Saturday to spend Christmas with their families.

Mr. and Mrs. Gust Anderson entertained Messrs. and Mesdames I. P. Drake, C. Healy and S. L. Drake.

Wm. Detrich and family of Drace Settlement spent Christmas day at the homes of Mr. Elizabeth Henke and Frank Krueger.

Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Peterson and family spent Christmas with their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thermahlen.

Misses Pearl and Florence Hammon who attend the High School of Stanley are spending their vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchel Hamman at Worden.

Three large sleigh loads of the old settlers of Eidsvold vicinity drove out to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Clark's residence south of Thorp and gave them a happy surprise last Christmas night.

A big Christmas tree was the attraction at Frank Krueger's home Christmas evening. A crowd of seventeen was there to receive the many gifts that Santa had left there and to do justice to the supper.

The above pictures are of the Ruby Lumber Company built by Ed L. Haun founder of the firm of

Sill & Haun. Mr. Haun came to this area in 1902 and named the town Ruby after his only daughter.

The first building that was erected after the mill began sawing lumber was a rectangular two-story structure with a lean to on each side. The Hawn's occupied one lean-to while the other was used for storing the necessary equipment needed for maintaining a mill. The central part was for the "wanigan" which meant the large supply of workmen's clothing from which each man could select his needs and charge the cost against his wages. A little later this part of the building was used for the general store

and Post Office.

Mrs. Dr. McKiltrick is visiting in Minneapolis.

The Baptist ladies will give a lawn party at the home of Dr. Selden on Friday evening.

Geo. B. Parkill and family spent last Sunday in Withee visiting Mr. and Mrs. Rogers.

Mike Wiltgen, one of our successful merchants made a business trip to LaCrosse on Tuesday.

W. C. Balles, the blind piano tuner is in town. There will be less discord among the pianos for awhile.

The Democratic party has held its county convention. The Courier editor has been nominated for county clerk.

A large portion of the ladies of this village spend a considerable time in the blackberry patches. Berries are coming in by the bushel,

The farmers have commenced threshing. The yield is exceedingly good. Prof. Rhea’s oats yielded over 66 bushels per acre and his rye almost 40 bushels.

T. E. Cass, the gentlemanly traveling man of Johnson Bros. Co., visited Thorp this week. He has been traveling for 22 years and has never missed a single trip in that time.

Jos. Kleckner, who has been in the Klondike country for the past three years, returned on Tuesday. He is brother-in-law to Jas. Schebelak, and has made a fair success in the gold country.

Rev. E H. McKenzie and wife of Cadott were visitors at the Bachman home on Wednesday. The Reverend gentleman drives a splendid team, and like all men of his cloth, knows a good horse.

Aug. Grimm waked up Dr. McKittrick on Wednesday a t about 3 o’clock in the morning to dress a fearful gash on his hand. He tied up the arteries, dressed the wound and sent him home comparatively easy.

On last Saturday evening some of the toughs of this place, with quite a “ smart sprinkle” of the same class from Stanley got into a drunken row' and kept a goodly portion of the village awake until daylight Sunday morning. There were some hopes that like “ Kilkenny Cats,” they would totally eat each other up. Both Stanley and Thorp would be better off without them.

The wedding bells will in Worden Christmas.

The dance was a success last week. Hamilton reports a good time.

The brethren sent for the Elder to settle the famous wood saw scrape.

Frank Krieger of Worden loaded a car of wood in Stanley last Tuesday.

John S. Evenson of Stanley is spending this week with friends at Eidsvold.

Charles Flora of Eidsvold sold a valuable horse the fore part of the week.

Chas. R. Morenson returned from Green Bay and New Denmark, last Monday.

Alen Hadley came down from Ruby Tuesday and went back to camp Thursday morning.

Miss Mary Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solon Larson is at her home quite seriously ill.

J. P. Sharp of Stanley was visiting with old friends in Worden last Saturday and Sunday.

Roy Miller had the misfortune to get hit with a tree while cutting logs for Shilts. He layed off one day.

John Nelson of Worden is now officiating as Goshaw & Hamman's oldest boy. Peat Peaterson has resigned.

Rudolph Johnson, Hans Olson, H. P. Benson and Ed Johnson have sold their tobacco crop and shipped the same last Thursday.

Dave Kienholz gave an oyster supper Wednesday evening in honor of his nephew, Walter Mittlestadt of Bellinham, Minn., who is visiting relatives here. A jolly good time is reported

Dave Keinholz went to Neillsville last Tuesday.

John Warner went to Neillsville the fore part of the week. Gust Anderson has been loading wood for Math. Gruber at Eidsvold.

Verne Boardman, of Stanley moved into his new house at Eidsvold last Friday.

C. L. Campbell went to Minneapolis last Wednesday for a few days visit with friends.

Ora Hamilton, of Worden says he has made up his mind to wait until next fall to get married.

Christian Lee returned from the Dakota harvest fields last Tuesday and reports a very prosperous season. George Hamman, of Worden has rented the farm formerly owned by J. P. Sharp and has moved on the same.

Edna Worden, who has been spending the summer a t Elroy, Wis., returned to her home the fore part of the week.

John and Ole Siverson have their new house up, shingled and sided. They will soon have it ready to move into. Who is the lucky girl ?

Corlin Worden, of Elroy, Wis. is up at Eidsvold and will spend the hunting season there. Air. Worden has hunted in this country for a go o d m any years and always takes out his full quota of deer.

William Cripe, of Worden, not long ago went to Starkweather, N. D., where lie has obtained a good position in a grist mill. As he will have steady work the year around he sent for his wife and children w ho left Thursday morning.

Frank Story is quite seriously ill at his mother’s home at Eidsvold.

Frank Yeder and family of Eidsvold will move to Ruby for the winter.

Vedell and Vern Boardman returned from North Dakota Wednesday night Gust Anderson is loading wood at Eidsvold for Math. Gruber of Stanley.

Harry and Guy Worden write home that they are getting $2.75 a day threshing in N. D.

W . C. Boardman .is loading cars and otherwise looking after Goshaw Hamman's interest at Eidsvold.

Colley had better try and get in a little early evenings or he will not find a light in the window for him. Airs. Mitchell Hamman , Miss Perl Hamman and Miss Wenzel of Worden visited a t Eau Claire last Sunday.

O. E. Warner is over-hauling and repairing the interior of his house. John Norton of Thorp is doing the work.

Maggie and Mary Ogle entertained a number of their young friends last Tuesday evening. Refreshments were served and all report a good time.

The young people of Worden gave a very pleasant surprise to John Shultz family in the town of Worden last Tuesday night. We understand there was some dancing mixed in with the games.

Willis Boardman has a job loading cars and otherwise looking after Goshaw & Hammond’s interests at Eidsvold.

Adolph Edwardson was at Eidsvold Wednesday skirmishing after cars on which to ship wood. The cars seem to be very scarce and this puts the farmers to much inconvenience.

Everybody is invited to attend a sociable at J. R. Baxter's tonight for the benefit of Robert Ferdon and family. Those that can’t come can send their contributions to any o f the ladies at Eidsvold and it will be sure to reach its destination.

George Roderick was down from Ruby a few days this week.

Tim Warner was down from Hannibal a few days this week.

Guy Worden drove down from Ruby Wednesday.

Ella VanAlstine is spending a few days with Mrs. Baxter at Eidsvold. Lizzie Boardman was calling in Stanley Wednesday.

Lawrence Peterson and Richard Craig made their regular call at Eidsvold last Sunday night.

Mr. and Mrs. John Warner met with a serious accident while returning from Thorpe last Saturday. The lines gave out and Mr. Warner stepped out upon the wagon pole to repair them, when one of the horses became frightened and kicked, breaking Mr. Warner’s arm. The horses then started to run away and and Mrs. Warner leaped from the wagon in so doing broke her ankle and her limb above the ankle.

The ladies of Eidsvold will give a social at the residence of Mrs. J. R. Baxter Dec. 17th. The proceeds are to go to Robert Ferdon and family. All are cordially invited to attend. Sam Mills put up a new wind mill the fore part of the week.

Goshaw and Ham on were running their lath Mill at Worden this week.
