Mrs. Matthew Nowosel, 90, of Sun City Huntley, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 5, 1923 in the town of Vance Creek, Barron County, Wisconsin. Then in 1924, they settled on a farm east of Greenwood. She grew up and worked on the family farm and attended School in Greenwood. Upon graduating High School in 1941, she moved to Illinois to work as a housekeeper for the Nelson family.

On October 28, 1950, she married Matthew Nowosel of Wilmette. She became stepmother to his eight children. They built a home in Glenview, where they lived and Lois worked. She and Matthew hosted many parties, lunches, dinners and coffee and tea parties in their home. Lois adored and cared for her prize garden in her backyard. That is where she was happiest.

In 2003, she came to live in Huntley, but left her heart in Glenview. She attended the First Congregational Church and volunteered when she was able. You could always find Lois in the kitchen baking pumpkin squares or cookies for coffee hour at church.

She is survived by her many children, all of whom at Lois' request are listed here, Elizabeth (Jack) Mcguinness, Gertrude (Arnie) Schneider, Margaret (Gregory) Klein, Matthew (Shirley) Nowosel, Leonard Nowosel, Erma (Ray) Wilson, Thery Lynn (Wes) Frey, Jorge "Sonny" (Nicole) Gastelum, Christina "Tina"(Antonio) Morales; 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Nowosel; parents, Frank and Margarete (Mcneil) Smaldone; sister, Mary Smaldone; infant brother and stepsons, Erwin (Diane) Nowosel and John Nowosel.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at First Congregational Church, 11628 E. Main Street, Huntley with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service with Rev. Lance Lackore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to Alexian Brothers Hospice, 1515 East Lake St., ste 206, Hanover Park, IL 60133.
