Culbert, Marian L. (29 May 1923 - 6 April 2014)
Marian L. Culbert, age 90, formerly of Eau Claire, died Sunday, April 6, 2014,
at Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Marian was born May 29, 1923, in the Town of Worden, Clark County, WI, to Anton
and Mary Micke. She graduated from Thorp High School in 1941. She married
Francis J. Culbert, of Chippewa Falls, on February 14, 1946, in Thorp, and then
made their home in Eau Claire. Francis, who served with the U. S. Army in Europe
during World War II, died of Hodgkin’s disease on February 7, 1950.
Marian was employed at Edwin’s women’s apparel store and was a long-time
employee of Sears Roebuck. She was president of the Eau Claire chapter of Naim
and served on the boards of the Consumers Cooperative Association of Eau Claire
and the area chapter of AARP. She enjoyed traveling and visited many
destinations in North America, Europe and Africa. Marian completed numerous
adult education classes, studied family genealogy and was an accomplished
seamstress. She was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader, bowler, golfer, public
library volunteer and member of Immaculate Conception Parish, where she sang in
the church choir.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Anna
Benzschawel, Cecelia Velcheck, Veronica Benzschawel, Margaret Vanderhyden,
Dolores Schmidt, Lenore Schulte; and a brother, William Micke.
She is survived by sons: Patrick (Jane) Culbert, Menomonie, and Thomas
(Margaret) Culbert, Alexandria, VA; grandchildren: Elizabeth (William) Monaghan,
New Orleans, Kathryn Culbert (Jon Larson), Minneapolis, Patrick Culbert,
(Alexander Lyon) Berlin, Germany, Peter (Emily) Culbert, Roseville, CA, and
Edward Culbert, Milton, FL; great-grandchildren William and Fergus Monaghan,
Phoebe Larson, Davis Culbert and Samuel Culbert, and many nieces and nephews.
Marian’s family is grateful for the skillful and loving care provided by the
staff of the Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at
Immaculate Conception Church, 1712 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, with the Rev. Don
Meuret officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon at
Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday
evening at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Rd., Eat Claire,
where a 7 p.m. prayer service will conclude the evening’s visitation. Friends
may also call at the church on Friday morning from, 10 a.m. until the time of
service
The family prefers that memorials be given in Marian’s name to Regis High School
in Eau Claire or L. E Phillips Memorial Public Library, Eau Claire.
