Sheda, Elizabeth “Betty” M. (27 June 1923 - 15 April 2014)
Elizabeth “Betty” Sheda, 90, of Black River Falls passed away Tuesday, April 15,
2014, at Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls, whole under the care of
Black River Memorial Hospice. She was born June 27, 1923, to John and Agnes (Zika)
Prochaska in Black River Falls.
She attended Halcyon School and graduated from the Black River Falls High School
in 1940. Betty received her associate degree from the University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1981. She was employed by Jackson Electric Cooperative
for 15 years and by the State of Wisconsin for 13 1/2 years.
Betty was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church, the Naomi
Circle of the United Methodist Church, a 75-year member of the WFLA Lodge, where
she served as a president, vice president, secretary and trustee. She belonged
to the Wrightsville Homemaker Club, serving as its president and was a past
member of the Black River Falls Senior Citizens.
Betty married Charles Marek Jr. Nov. 13, 1943; they were later divorced. She
later married John Sheda June 27, 1953 in Black River Falls. The couple lived in
Black River Falls all their married lives.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (John) Hubing of Neillsville
and Pamela (Richard) Hardinger of Marshfield; son Earl (Chris Riggins) Sheda of
Hatfield; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (Lloyd) Olson
of Merrillan; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents, a
brother and a sister.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church, Black River Falls. Reverend Kathleen Jury officiated. Burial
followed in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends were
invited for visitation Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at
the church.
