Swenson, Arthur (30 March 1898 - 9 April1972)
Funeral services for Arthur Swenson, 74, of Woodville, who died suddenly April 9
at his home, were held Tuesday April 11, at 10 a.m. from Skari Dull Funeral Home
in Baldwin and Wednesday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m., from the Hoeper and Kraut
Funeral Home in Owen. The Rev Paul Doering officiated at both services. Burial
was made in the Riverside Cemetery at Withee.
Mr. Swenson, the son of Edwin and Mary Swenson, was born March 30, 1898, at
Dodgeville. He moved to the Longwood area with his family at the age of six and
was educated at schools there and at Greenwood High school. His marriage to the
former Florence Rittenhouse took place March 30, 1918, at Escanaba, Mich. They
lived on the family farm near Owen for about 30 years and then moved to
Woodville, where they made their home for the last 19 years.
Among his many activities Mr. Swenson was a director of the Clark County
Breeders’ Cooperative, the Clark County board of supervisors, and the College of
Agriculture at Madison. He owned the Woodville Drug store and was a member of
the Woodville Lions Club, was the past district governor of 27 E of the Lions
Club, past state treasurer of the Wisconsin Lions Club, and was presently
serving as chairman of the Leader Dog committee and as a member of the Lions
Foundation committee. He was Woodville village clerk for 18 years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Phyllis)
Conrad of Owen; a sister, Mrs. Alida Vine of Vida, Mt; and a number of nieces
and nephews.
