Spry, Phelps (31 December 1900 - 5 April 1972)
Funeral services for Phelps Spry, age 71, retired Chili businessman who died
April 5, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fl, were held Saturday,
April 8, at 2 p.m. from Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili. The Rev.
Lloyd L. McCormick officiated and burial was made in the Windfall Cemetery at
Granton. The Gilbertson Funeral Home at Granton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spry was born December 31, 1900, at Granton and received his education
there. His marriage to the former Jessie Ross took place August 13, 1930, at
Augusta. The Sprys made their home at Chili, where he operated the W. J. Spry
and Sons feed mill. Mr. Spry, who was a member of Immanuel United Methodist
Church, retired in 1962.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three children, Donovan Spry and
Mrs. Walter (Beverly) Helm. Both of Chili, and Janet Spry of Appleton; two
sisters, Mrs. Norma Jaenicke of Kankakee, Il, and Mrs. Otis (Nylva) Tucker of
Palmetto, Fl, and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: William Happe, Herbert Puscheck, Don Bersell, Burdette McNaul,
Ervin Haslow and Otto Rusch. “Near the Cross” and “Life’s Railway to Heaven”
were sung by Norman and Edwin Meissner. Mrs. Albert Grimm was the accompanist.
