Krug, Leona M. (Werner) (17 JUL 1914 - 15 MAY 2014)

Leona M. Krug, 99, Medford, died on Thursday, May 15 at Aspirus Care and Rehab-Medford, where she had resided the past nine months.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, with Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Whittlesey. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Travis Anderson, and Wyatt, Mitch, Gary, Greg and Scott Krug.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Leona Werner was born on July 17, 1914 in the town of Chelsea, to the late Herman W. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" A. (Haenel) Werner. She attended Medford area schools.

On June 26, 1935 in Whittlesey, she married Gilbert E. Krug, who preceded her in death on October 10, 1968. They owned and operated a tavern in the town of Chelsea for a number of years. They also owned and operated a mink ranch in Whittlesey for 26 years, and after her husband's death, she still helped out during the pelting season. She also worked at Hurd Millwork.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its choir, Trinity Ladies Aid, Chelsea Conservation Club Auxiliary where she served as president, Medford VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Whittlesey Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, painting, making mink accessories, fishing and gambling.

Survivors include a daughter, Julaine (Robert) Anderson of Whittlesey; three sons, Gerald (Carolyn) Krug of Sun City West, Ariz., Wayne (significant other Claudette Saladin) Krug of Whittlesey and Gene (Gloria) Krug of Medford; a sister, Delores "Dottie" Dietzman of Medford; a brother, Robert (Rosemary) Werner of Whittlesey; 13 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Milton, Leon and Edward Werner, and four sisters, Ruth Frischman, Pearl Mildbrand, Lauretta Multerer and Lenora Mayer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
