Pryer, Jack F. (5 JUN 1926 - 22 MAY 2014)

Jack F. Pryer, age 87, of Colby formerly of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Colonial Center in Colby. Care for Jack was provided by Ministry Home Care Hospice.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Spencer United Methodist Church in Spencer. Rev. Daniel Kim will officiate. Burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery, Town of Sherman will full military honors being conducted. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church in Spencer from 9AM until time of services. Pallbearers include his sons: Randy and Mark, his daughter Kathy and three grandsons: Jason, Judd and Jake.

Jack was born June 5, 1926 in Detroit, MI, the son of George and Elizabeth (Holland) Pryer. After completing his schooling at the Ford Trade School in Detroit, he entered the United States Navy at the young age of 17. After serving aboard the USS Hydrics for two years and nine days, Jack was honorably discharged and while at the Chicago Navy Yard met Marian Seefeld. They were married in Detroit on April 13, 1946. Sadly Marian passed away on September 12, 2001. In Detroit, Jack worked for the Ford Motor Company and Cyclone Fence Co. They later moved to Baraboo where Jack was employed at the Badger Ordnance Plant as a security guard. Five years later the couple moved to Spencer where Jack was employed in the maintenance department at PCA in Colby until his retirement.

Hobbies included camping, some deer hunting and he enjoyed league pistol shooting in Colby. Jack had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes. One of his favorite lines was " IF YOU MEET ME IN THE AIRPORT, DON'T SAY HI JACK". He was an avid collector of all sorts of tools, many many hand tools to say the least.

Jack was a foster parent to 7 children providing them all with learning and guidance. He was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church and Colby VFW Post 2227.

Survivors include his children: Randy (fiancé Doreen Christensen) Pryer of Apple Valley, MN, Mark (Cindy) Pryer of Marshfield, Kathy (Robert) Strunz of Shawano; his grandchildren: Craig Pryer of Huntington Beach, CA, Heather Pryer of Milwaukee, Jason (Kaylle) Widmann of Marshfield, Judd (Tiffany) Widmann of Marshfield, Jake Widmann of Indianapolis, IN., Tori (Fabian) Lemke of Watertown, Danielle (fiancé Alex) Strunz of Fennimore; his great grandchildren: Lexi, Noelle, Brayden, Crosby, Reese, Ashur and Tracy along with many other relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marian and two brothers.

If desired, memorials in Jack's name are being accepted to the American Alzheimer's Association .
