Seliskar, William (2nd Bronze Star - 1966)
Viet Cong snipers are a menace to U.S. soldiers. Private First Class William G.
Seliskar of Greenwood (Clark Co.), Wis., proved they can also be "sitting
ducks."
Pvt. Seliskar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip J. Seliskar, route 2, box 130,
received the second award of the Bronze Star Medal Sept. 4 for heroism in
Vietnam.
He was with his platoon on a search and destroy mission near Tuy Hoa Jan. 24,
when they encountered heavy fire from two snipers. Pvt. Seliskar exposed himself
to enemy fire as eh killed one of the snipers. The other sniper directed fire
towards Seliskar, but the 22 years old soldier was able to wound him.
The citation accompanying the award reads in part, "Because of Pvt. Seliskar's
effective fire and quick response to the situation, he undoubtedly saved his
fellow soldiers from injury."
A rifleman in Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion of the 101st Airborne
Division's 502nd Infantry, he entered on active duty in March 1965 and arrived
overseas last December.
Seliskar is a 1961 graduate of Greenwood, Wis. Community High School. His wife,
Aleta, lives at 548 N. LaVergne, North Lake, Ill.
