Champa, Louis Sr. #2 (12 December 1901 - 10 July 1972)
Louis Champa, Sr., 79, a resident of the Willard area for over 40 years, died
Monday morning, July 10, at Neillsville where he had been a hospital patient
since May 26. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, at 8 p.m. from Holy
Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Mertens officiating. The body of
Mr. Champa was in state at the church overnight until 10:30 Wednesday morning
when services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial was made in the
parish cemetery at Willard. Visitation previous to the services was at the Hill
Funeral Home in Greenwood.
Mr. Champa, the son of john and Theresa Champa, was born December 12, 1901, in
Yugoslavia where he grew to manhood. He moved to Willard in 1929 and engaged in
farming until 1957 when he retired. The Champas continued to live in their farm
home. His marriage to Antonia Larvich, who survives him, took place November 10,
1954.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Nancy) Cushman of Racine and
Mrs. Henry (Teffie) Celkes of Chicago, Il; four sons, Frank, Louis, Jr., and
Michael of Chicago and Sylvester of Rochester, Mn; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Zajec
of Chicago and Mrs. Angela Schneeler of Virginia, Mn; and 26 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his four sons, Frank, Louis, Jr., Sylvester and Michael and his
two sons-in-law, Ray Cushman and Henry Celkes.
