Zaidel, Jean C. (29 March 1926 - 1 June 2014)

Jean C. Zaidel, age 88, of Withee left us on Sunday, June 1, 2014, to join her husband, John, in heaven. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Father Janusz Kowalski will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jean was born on March 29, 1926, in Lublin, the daughter of Peter and Stella (Zalewski) Liszewski, the youngest of eight children. As a child, she helped with the farming and later moved to Chicago where she worked in a candy factory. Jean met her husband, John Zaidel, and they were married on May 9, 1951. They bought his family’s farm in Thorp and raised a family. They retired from farming in 1974 and moved to a hobby farm in Withee. She went on to work at Continental Manor in Abbotsford for 21 years.

Jean enjoyed gardening, polka music and visiting with friends. She also loved doing work find puzzles. When her husband was alive, they loved to go camping.

Jean is survived by three children: Robert (Virginia) Zaidel of Owen, Carol (Richard) Rode of Withee and Nancy Bender of Withee; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They will all miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and all of her sisters and brothers.
