Bailey, Mrs. Chet (Honored Teacher - 1972)
Recently one Sunday Mrs. Chet Bailey was honored on her 60th anniversary of her
teaching in what was then known as the Wilbur School. About 20 old time friends
and pupils gathered at the schoolhouse, which has been moved to a pretty spot
near the home of Miss Daisy Stevens, to enjoy a picnic dinner and visit. Can’t
you just hear the stories of the old school days?
Now may I add a bit about the schoolhouse. It is now owned by Miss Stevens who
has kept it in good condition and uses it as a museum. It is well worth anyone’s
time to stop and ask permission to view the near 100-year-old building and its
contents. A number of our then local girls started their teaching careers there
and were their own janitors, sweeping, dusting, building fire, in the old box
wood stove.
Mrs. Bailey is enjoying quite good health and attends W.S.C.S. meetings and
enjoys a good old-fashioned visit with friends.
