Ponomarenko, Wasyl (25 March 1900 - 1 August 1972)
Funeral services are to be held Friday, August 4, at 9 a.m. from Holy Trinity
Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Lynn for Wasyl Ponomarenko, 72, of Rt. 1,
Neillsville, who died August 1 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The Rev.
Nicholas Yarmolovich of Minneapolis, Mn, will officiated and burial will be made
in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The body of Mr. Ponomarenko will be in state
at the Georgas Funeral Home this (Thursday) afternoon after 3 o’clock. A prayer
service is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Wasyl Ponomarenko was born March 25, 1900, in the Ukraine and came to the United
States in 1949, locating in Chicago where he worked for the Edson Electric
Company. He moved to Clark County in 1955 and purchased the former Ben Dux farm
in the Town of Grant. Mr. Ponomarenko, who was a member of the Ukrainian
Orthodox Church, had been in failing health for the last two years.
Survivors include his wife, Anna, whom he married in 1947 in Germany; and two
children, Mrs. Michael (Maria) Bubla of Stevens Point and Andrew, at home.
