Scott, Rev. Roy F. (5 SEP 1906 - 15 FEB 1967)
Rev. Roy F. Scott, pastor of the Stanley, Cadott and Thorp Methodist Churches,
died suddenly at 9:45 o'clock Wednesday night, Feb. 15, 1967 while shoveling
snow at his home in Stanley.
Memorial services were held at the Stanley Methodist Church at three o'clock
Saturday afternoon.
Rev. Scott was born Sept. 5, 1906 in Edwardsville, Ill., the son of John and
Maude Scott. After his graduation from high school, he attended Illinois
Wesleyan College, and later the Garrett Theological Seminary in Illinois. His
marriage to Leona Bohn took place in Illinois in 1930. After the death of his
first wife, he was married to Marianna Miller in Chicago.
Rev. Scott was pastor of churches in Illinois from 1930 to 1932, and then did
lay work until 1949. He again went back into church work and was pastor of
various churches, serving in Belleville, Wis., Chicago, Ill., Waukegan, Ill.,
Pepin and Maiden Rock, Wis. in 1962 he became pastor o f the Stanley, Thorp and
Cadott Methodist Churches.
He was a member of the Shadrack Bond Lodge 611, Chicago Eastern Star.
Surviving are his wife, Marianna, four sons, David of Scales Mound, Ill., Ray,
Compton, Ill., Donald of Chicago, and Stephen, at home; five grandchildren; two
brothers and three sisters.
He was very active in community affairs and was quite instrumental, along with
other adults, in forming of Stanley's new youth center, the Eye. He was one of
the adults on the Advisory Board, and one of three serving on the finance
committee for "The Eye."
Rev. Scott was one of the leaders of Operation Understanding held in Stanley in
November, when the various Catholic and Protestant Churches were visited to
learn more about each other's faith. Out of Operation Understanding grew the
Interfaith service which was held in Stanley in January.
He came to this are in June 1962, serving the three congregations.
