Boone, Francis D. (1909? - 28 FEB 1967)
Francis Daniel Boone, 57, Gilman village president, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday in
his home after suffering a heart attack.
He had been the manager of the Gilman Funeral Home for 10 years and a member of
the Taylor County Board of Supervisors.
Born in Waukee, Iowa, he was planning a career in veterinary medicine before
entering a mortuary school in St. Louis, Mo. He worked as a mortician in Des
Moines and Belmond, Iowa, before moving to Rice Lake in 1954. In 1955 he became
an associate of the Plombon Funeral Service and Stanley, later becoming manager
of the Gilman Chapel.
Mr. Boone was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, the
Holy Name Society, Gilman Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Gilman Betterment
Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Delores Withes, whom he married in 1954;
five sons, Daniel Lee, Long Beach, Calif., Richard Dennis, in the Air Force in
Thailand, Robert, Terry and Randy, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Beryl Earp,
Waukee, Iowa, Mrs. Emily Anderson, Dexter, Iowa, and Mrs. Fern Wallace,
Longview, Wash.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic
Church, the Rev. Peter Szleszinski officiating. The casket will be taken to
Belmond, Iowa, where committal rites will be held Monday morning.
