Michur, Edward Leon (21 July 1921 - 26 June 2014)
Edward L. Michur, age 92, of Thorp, died on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Our Lady
of Victory Hospital, in Stanley. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, in Thorp,
with Rev. Janusz Kowalski officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Visitation was held at the church on Tuesday, from 12 p.m. until time of
service.
Edward Leon Michur was born on July 21, 1921, in Withee, WI, the son of George
and Josephine (Andruszkiewicz) Michur. He was raised on the family farm and
received his education in the Withee area. After completing his education, Ed
remained on the family farm to help his father, and eventually took over its
operation. He was united in marriage to Sophie M. Kozenka on September 4, 1943,
at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. He farmed on the family farm, east of
Thorp, until 1947, at which time he purchased a farm south of Thorp. He
continued to farm until 1979, when he and his wife separated. He lived in
Greenwood and Neillsville for a few years, working for Fiskar’s and Figi’s,
before returning to Thorp. Ed remained in Thorp until the time of his death.
He was active in the Clark County Dairy Association, and loved dancing to polka
music.
He is survived by four children: Ed (Nancy) Michur of Blue Grass, IA, Marie
Michur of Eau Claire, Ken Michur of Kenosha, Nancy Michur of Thorp two
granddaughters: Jennifer (Kevin) Michur-Behncke and Stephanie (Chris) Fowler,
both of Blue Grass, IA; four great-grandchildren: Gavin and Addison Fowler, and
Brayden and Briann Behncke; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sophie, on January 23, 2003;
two brothers: Stanley and Adam Michur; and two sisters: Evelyn Coates and
Estella Mendalski.
