Short, Clara (5 December 1887 - 5 August 1972)

A resident of Clark County for over 80 years, Mrs. Clara Louise Short, 84, of Neillsville, died here August 5. Funeral services for Mr. Short were held Tuesday, August 8, at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiating. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Clara Short, the daughter of James and Fanny (Irish) Carter, was born December 5, 1887, in Wadena, Mn, and came to Clark County with her parents when she was three years old. The family settled and farmed in the Town of Washburn, where she received her education and later taught school.

Her marriage to Ernest Schroeder took place June 24, 1908, in the Town of Washburn. Mr. Schroeder died in 1909. Her marriage to Edward Short, who died February 10, 1960, took place April 15, 1913, in the Town of Washburn. The Shorts retired from farming in 1944 and moved to Neillsville. Mrs. Short was a member of the United Methodist Church and of its Women’s Society.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Kuhn and Mrs. Ruth Allbaugh, both of Neillsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Dave Krutsch, Bernard Kuhn, John Reinart, Jack Urban, Oliver Williams and Kenneth Short, Sr. Mrs. Robert Peters sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Sweetly Resting”, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Art Short, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams, Mrs. Elmer Kapfer, Mrs. Chris Feutz and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Short of Granton, Mrs. Allen Troemner of Madison and Elaine Short of Milwaukee.
