Fire Destroys Barn (17 August 1972)
The barn on the Marvin Radke farm, Rt. 2 Loyal, was destroyed by fire late
Monday afternoon, according to Louis Kebl, Greenwood fire chief.
Kebl said his department received the call just after a storm struck the area.
“Flames were all over the inside of the barn when we got there,” he added.
Cause of the fire, according to the fire chief, was either lightning striking
the barn or electrical wires that were torn lose by the wind and touching the
building.
No livestock was involved, but trees were blown down in the heavy wind.
The Radke farm, although on a Loyal rural route, is situated four miles south of
Greenwood.
