The home team was behind by five points in the last minutes of the first half.
So catching was the excitement that everyone was standing up and cheering. I
suddenly became aware of a brown haired girl about five feet, six and one-half
inches, who was leading the cheering. Upon asking her identity, I was informed
it was Joyce Hedler, a senior.
Eager to become acquainted with this exuberant you lady, I managed to catch her
ye and motioned that I would like to talk to her at half-time. She said “fine,”
and later we met in the multi-purpose room.
I introduced myself and explained my purpose. During our brief conversation, I
notice that she and brown eyes. She informed me that she was seventeen, and that
she would have to wait until Oct. 13 before she was eighteen. I notice that
every time the color green appeared, Joyce expressed her pleasure. Naturally
freshmen would be mentioned, seeing that she is a mighty senior. Joyce remarked
that she cannot stand sassy freshmen.
The second half was starting just then so I hurried back to my seat. Inquiring
of my neighbor, I found that besides cheerleading, Joyce is quite active in
chorus, pep club, G.A.A., and is the Cardinals business staff head. I also
discovered that she enjoys skiing, both in winter and in summer.
After the game, at the Thorpedo, Joyce ordered a cheeseburger. While waiting for
her order, she picked two songs on the Jukebox: “Dedicated to the One I Love”
and “I Think We’re Alone Now.” From a second source, I learned that Joyce also
enjoys shrimp, steak, chop suey, whistles and southern fried chicken.
Throughout he lively conversation with friends, “shut up” and “tsk” kept popping
up.
The chitchat turned to what one was planning to do after high school. Joyce
remarked that she though your education was a very important factor and not to
lose your chances for success. Following her own advice, Joyce informed her
friends that she was continuing her education at some college. By the way, the
home team won.
