Winkler, Floyd L. (5 MAY 1896 – 22 APR 1966)
Floyd Lee Winkler, 69, Rt. 1, Stanley, died unexpectedly at 7 p.m. Friday at his
home.
Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral home in Stanley, the
Rev. Ernest Detrick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Winkler was born on May 5, 1896, in Piermont, Ind., and moved to the Town
of Worden, Clark Co., Wisconsin with parents when he was seven years old. After
serving with the Army in France and Germany during WWI, he moved to Iowa where
he spent more than 20 years working as a trucker and mason.
After returning to the Stanley area in 1947, he continued in his trade as a
mason.
Mr. Winkler was a member of the World War I Veterans of Chippewa County, and
served as both clerk and assessor of the Town of Wilson, Eau Claire County.
He is survived by his wife, the former Hilda Strauss, whom he married April 10,
1923 at Fonda, Iowa; four sons, Bernard, Fonda, Iowa, Bernice, Norfolk, Va.,
Orrie, Webster City, Iowa and Robert, Schaller, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Ivan
Balls, Blyville, Ark.; one brother, Jesse Winkler, Cadott; seven sisters, Miss
Irma Winkler, Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Nada Gardner, Newport, Pa., Mrs. Clara
Sunderland, McVey Town, Pa., Mrs. Iva Schwartz, McVey Town, Mrs. Charles Behler,
Oregon, Ill., Kelly Weaver, Springfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Emmet Gordon, Kent,
Wash.; 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
