Herman, Gertrude (17 MAR 1888 – 28 APR 1966)

A funeral high mass for Mrs. Gertrude Herman, 78, who passed away at 3:30 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 1966 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, was held at 10 a.m. on May 2 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Michael G. Mertens, Chancellor and See of the Diocesan office of La Cross, officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jim Kowieski of El Paso, Texas, Tom Misfeldt of Madison, Michael Herman of Janesville, Robert Pease, Terry Misfeldt and Michael Pease.

Gertrude Herman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bogumill, was born on March 17, 1888 in Gallitzin, Pa.. As a child she moved to Thorp with her parents. She attended Yaeger School. On April 29, 1907, Gertrude Bogumill and Charles Herman were married at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, with Francis X. Pudlo performing the ceremony. All of her married life was spent in the Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) area. Mrs. Herman lived in her last place of residence for 45 years. Mrs. Herman was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, the Catholic Order of Women Foresters, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her husband Charles preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1963. Three of their children also preceded her in death: Edna Mae in infancy in 1922, John in 1933, and Rosella Herman Brunner in 1939. Two brothers, Leon and John, also preceded her in death.

Surviving children are: Mrs. Marie Kowieski of Glenview, Ill., Gerald of Janesville, Mrs. Clyde Misfeldt, Mrs. Theresa Pease, Robert and Jeanne Herman, all of Thorp. Fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Brothers are Ed of Thorp, Tom of Targo, Fla., and Frank of Holcombe. Sisters are Mrs. Lucy Manicke of Hartland, Mrs. Tom Polnaszek of Thorp, Mrs. John Huls of Owen, Mrs. Pauline Stoker and Mrs. Robert Blazel of Madison.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were from: Lublin, Stanley, Gilman, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Rhinelander, Waukesha, Hartland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, South Milwaukee, Madison, Abbotsford, Greenwood, Kingston, New York, Texas, Withee, Holcombe, Janesville, Owen and Glenview, Ill.
