------ Kawa, Joan Mary (07 MAY 1966)

St. Francis Xavier Catholic church was the scene of the wedding of Miss Joan Mary Kawa, Wausau, and James Brehm, route 1, Colby, on Saturday, May 7.

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kawa, route 3, Mosinee, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brehm, route 1, Colby.

Attending the bride were Mrs. Jerome Heckel, route 1, Mosinee; Mrs. Ronald Kawa and Kathy Kawa and Miss Lucy Shakal, all of Milwaukee.

The groom’s attendants were Jerome Heckel and Steven Heckel, route 1, Mosinee; Ronald Kawa, Milwaukee, and Everett Wenzel, route 1, Colby.  Ushers were Daniel Brehm, route 1, Colby, and Tony Sazama, Rudolph.

The bride wore a gown of organza over white faille taffeta, styled with a lace empire bodice with short bell sleeves and a scooped neckline.  Pearl motifs trimmed the lace which extended down the center of the organza A-line skirt in a wide panel.  The back of the skirt and chapel-length train were of organza.  The train was secured to the bodice and trimmed with a large bow.  The bouffant illusion veil was secured to a crown of lace leaves outlines with seed pearls on a pearl rim and trimmed with pearl motifs studded with crystals.  Her flowers consisted of a pendant-shaped bouquet of white butterfly roses, carnations and lilies of the valley.

The bride’s attendants were attired in identically styled floor-length gowns of peau taffeta in powder blue.  The short dress was styled with a scoop neckline and elbow-length sleeves with an A-line skirt, with a A-line overskirt secured under the band of the empire bodice with a watteau panel at the back.  They wore forward clips of dainty rolled roses of organza with tulle leaves outlined with seed pearls and trimmed with pearl motifs, to which the short halo veils were attached.  They carried a cascade arrangement of white carnations and blue pompons.

The ceremony was followed by a reception, supper and dance at the Colonial Ballroom.

Following a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin and Canada, the couple will be making their home at 3801 Sherman Road, Wausau.  The bride is a 1965 graduate of St. Mary’s school of nursing and is presently employed in the surgical department at St. Mary’s hospital, Wausau.  Her husband farms on his father’s farm on route 1, Colby.
