Nye, Marcella O. (20 March 1919 - 8 July 2014)
Marcella O. Nye, age 95, of Wittenberg, WI, formerly of the Rib lake are, died
on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Homme Home in Wittenberg, where she had resided for
the past four months.
Marcella was born on March 20, 1919, in Thorp, WI. She was educated at St.
Bernard’s Catholic Church School in Thorp. On May 3, 1939, Marcella married
Manford William Nye at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death
on January 20, 1996. After their marriage, they farmed in the Thorp area until
moving to Rib Lake area in 1947. They farmed there until moving into the Village
of Rib Lake. Marcella worked as a gluer for Gem Products Shoe Factory in Rib
Lake for 20 years. Then she worked two years at the Rib lake Health Care Center.
She has resided in Antigo since 2008. She enjoyed walking. She was a member of
Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake, and was a past member of its Christian
Mothers.
Survivors include her children: Ronald (Myra) Nye of Antigo, and Lois (Roman)
Lamberty of Jasper, TX; granddaughter, Nikki Lamberty of TX; special
goddaughter, Bernadine Nitz of Neenah; brothers, Bernard (Mary Ann) Mertens of
Thorp, Robert (Rosalie) Mertens of Thorp, and Father Michael Mertens of La
Crosse; sisters: Margaret Slowiak of Stanley, Delores Techmeir of Stanley, and
Theresa Westberg of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manford; grandson, Shannon Lamberty;
brothers and sisters: Catherine Hazuga, Helen Koenig, Ruth Weix, Marie Weix,
Francis and Hugo Mertens; father, Oscar Mertens: mother, Catherine Heiman.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday July 11, 2014, at Good
Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, officiated by Father Otto Bucher.
Visitation was held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Interment
was at Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to Good Shepherd
Catholic Church, Rib Lake, or the Rib Lake Fire Department.
