Lewandowski, Walter (19 MAY 1890 – 27 FEB 1966)
Funeral services for Walter Lewandowski, 75, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Trinka officiated and burial was
made in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Mr. Lewandowski died at Memorial Hospital in Stanley at 1 p.m. Sunday, after
suffering an apparent heart attack earlier in the day.
He was born in Pozin, Poland on May 19, 1890, and came to Milwaukee with his
parents when he was 10 years of age. About 45 years ago he settled on a farm in
the town of Medford (Taylor Co., Wis.). For about six years he was employed by
the city of Medford in the maintenance department, retiring about 10 years ago.
He was married to Mary Jzefiak in Milwaukee on Oct. 4, 1909.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are four sons, Mathew Lewandowski, Milwaukee,
George Lewandowski, Dorchester, John Lewandowski, Stanley, and Richard
Lewandowski, Milwaukee; four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Alice) Jarl, Medford, Mrs.
Henry (Evelyn) Behling, Medford, Mrs. Paul (Irene) Lukewich, town of Hamel, and
Mrs. Jerry (Pearl) Grenda, Hammond, Ind.
Other survivors are 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two brothers,
Peter Lewandowski, Milwaukee, Sylvester Lewandowski, Chicago; and two sisters,
Mrs. Ed Kowiczack, Milwaukee, Mrs. Joe Kalmon, Medford.
A daughter, Florence, preceded him in death, and a son Sylvester, died in Korea
in 1950.
