Gile, Gibson H. (4 December 1914 - 17 September 1972)

Gibson H. Gile, 57, prominent Merrillan insurance agent and realtor, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Merrillan, early Sunday morning.

He was born in Merrillan December 4, 1914, to Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Gile. He was graduated from the Merrillan High Schoof in 1932, and worked for the Farm Land Company in Chippewa Falls until 1937, when he became associated with his father in The Gile Agency in Merrillan.

He was a member of the Merrillan and Humbird Masonic Lodges , Neillsville Commandery, Black River Falls Royal Arch Masons, Eau Claire Consistory, and was area coordinator of the Indianhead district of the Wisconsin Grand Lodge; a member of the church board of locations for the United Methodist district conference; and was active in local church affairs; was a director of the Jackson County Bank; a member of the Black River Memorial Hospital board; Jackson County Housing Authority; Veteran of World War II; former village trustee, village clerk, and a member of the Merrillan volunteer fire department for the last 37 years; a member of the school board; was instrumental in rerouting Highway 27 through Merrillan and having the Chicago & Northwestern “400” stop at Merrillan.

He was married on May 30, 1963*, to Eleanor Austin, who survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Nelda) Stuve of Humbird, and Mrs. Kenneth (Carole) Green, of Eau Claire; a son, Robert, at home; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Jean) Henning of Altoona; a brother, William of Wisconsin Rapids; and three grandchildren.

Masonic Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Jensen Funeral Home at Hixton. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Merrillan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan.

Serving as Pallbearers were: Rodney Helbling, Marion Kluckhohn, Louis Hayden, James Sutton, Joe Pasek and Wilbert Breheim. The Rev. Richard Shriver was the soloist and Lois Sutton, organist.
