Greenwood-Loyal- Spencer article (12 June 1969)
A merger of weekly newspapers completed last week will give readers in Central
Clark County and southwestern Marathon Counties a more complete weekly paper
then has never been published in the area.
Robert and Florence Berglund of Loyal, publishers of the Loyal Tribune and
Spencer Record since October 1, 1968 have purchased the Greenwood Gleaner from
Albert Neuenfeldt and have combined the 3 weeklies into one publication to cover
the entire area. The comsolidation follows the trend of many small weeklies in
the nation.
The new publication will be called the Tribune-Record-Gleaner and will be
printed in Loyal.
The Loyal Tribune and Spencer Record had been published by W. D. and Jean Hesse
who purchased the Record from Chas. Neuenfeldt in 1963 and the Tribune from Leo
and Lily Fraveau in 1961.
The Tribune in its 75th year and the Record has existed for 56 years.
The Greenwood Gleaner in its 79th year of publication has been in the Neuenfeldt
family for 55 years. Albert (Abbie) Neuenfeldt had published it for the past 30
years.
The Greenwood Gleaner had a circulation of 835, the Tribune 936 and the Record
354 giving the new publication a combined circulation of 2,125.
Produced by offset process the new newspaper will be able to give readers a more
interesting paper wrth broader news coverage then possible by 3 seperate papers.
The offset production will also enable advertisers a wide choice of advertising
design than possible with the old letterpress style of printing. The
Tribune-Record-Gleaner is the only offset weekly in the area. The larger
circulation will also give advertisers the most complete guarenteed coverage in
central Clark and southwestern Marathon counties.
Mr. Neuenfeldt will continue to operate a job printing business in Greenwood and
will serve as Greenwood Editor of the new publication. He will also contact you
for ads.
Mrs. Gladys Grant will continue to serve as S[encer correspondent and like Mr/
Neuenfeldt will except subscription payments, want ads and also continue to
compile the news and other events of the community.
