College Notes (30 July 2014)
Two Loyal High School students were among 25 graduating senior receiving
Mid-State Technical College scholarships of $1,250 each for students enrolled in
associate degree or technical diploma programs during the 2014-15 academic
years. They are Jordan Esselman, Chili, the son of Ed and Linda Esselman,
enrolled in the automotive technician program; and Layne Schmidt, Loyal, the son
of Brian and Karie Schmidt, enrolled in the renewable energy specialist program.
Two Neillsville High School graduating seniors were recipients of this year’s
Francis & Evelyn Haines Scholarship, an endowment to the mid-State Technical
College Foundation. Hallie Eisfeldt daughter of Todd and Katrina Eisfeldt
received the $1,000 award and Shyla Salisbury, daughter of Scott and Melissa
Bahr, received the $500 award.
The following area students were named to the 2014 spring term dean’s list
(minimum 3.5 GPA) of Winona state University, Winona, MN:
Neillsville - Caitlin Courtney, Nicholas Neville and Samantha Pfeiffer; Owen -
Brandon Bredlau, Brittany Bredlau, Joshua Niemi and Kirsten Shakal
The following area students were among the spring 2014 graduates of Winona State
University:
Neillsville - Jacob McKevitt, BA (Bachelor of Arts). Professional studies;
Owen - Brittany Bredlau, BA, nursing, Summa Cum Laude; Joshua Niemi, BS
(Bachelor of Science), sociology; criminal justice, Cum Laude; Kirsten Shakal,
BA, mass communication, Summa Cum Laude; Kylie Shakal, Bachelor of Social Work,
social work, Summa Cum Laude.
The following area students were among the spring graduates of the University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire: Kaitlynn Heil, majoring in business special education;
Amanda Reed, majoring in biology.
Mollie Duginski of Colby earned semester honors (GPA 3.5 or above) for the
spring 2014 semester at Edgewood College in Madison. She was also named to the
dean’s list (Minimum 3.75 GPA).
The following area students received the chancellor’s award (GPA 3.5 or above)
for the 2014 spring semester at the university of Wisconsin-Stout:

rehabilitation; Kaitlyn Suda, psychology; Humbird - Melissa Sadloske, graphic
design and interactive media; Loyal - Allison Johnston, hotel, restaurant and
tourism; Michael Kaiser, engineering technology; Paul Martin, engineering

Neillsville - Aaron Aumann, applied mathematics and computer science, game
