The local City Hall building was discovered on fire yesterday morning at about
nine o'clock. The fire department was summoned, but the fire had gained such
headway that it was difficult to put it out.
Just what was the cause is not known, but the fire seemed to have started near
the chimney. There was no fire in the furnace or the library stove, so it will
probably never be known how it started.
The building, which also housed the library, was badly damaged by fire and
water.
Many of the library books were also damaged. Some were entirely burned, while
others were smoked up and water soaked.
The loss was partly covered by insurance.
