Mr. and Mrs. Ted Schmidt of route 1, Abbotsford, were honored Wednesday, June 22, by the Holton Homemakers at a surprise observance of their silver wedding anniversary.
The evening began with a shivaree after which pinochle and sheepshead were played at Mrs. Schmidt responded to the request of the guests with accordion music.
A fun box predicting the future of the couple added entertainment for the evening’s festivities which took place on the lawn at the Schmidt farm.
The honor guests, crowned the royalty of the evening, were also presented with a corsage and boutonniere, and a gift.
At the close of the evening, refreshments were served.
The former Cecilia Helfert and Theodore Schmidt were married June 3, 1941, at St. Louis Catholic church, Dorchester.
Mr. Schmidt, a sheet metal worker, worked under civil service until the end of World War 2 at Patterson air field, Ohio, Truax field at Madison, and the navy yard at Bremerton, Wash. About 1951, they purchased a farm home with three acres of land in the town of Holton and have made their home there.
The Schmidts have five children: Petty Officer First Class Dan Schmidt, of the
navy, a recruit officer at Racine, Mrs. Vic (Colleen) Woolery, Minneapolis,
Alan, Madison, Bill and Aaron, at home.
