Herbert Wilhem Herman Passehl 88, Edgar, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the
Clark County Health Center, Owen, Wis.
Herbert was born May 11, 1919 in the town of Frankfort, baptized June 1, 1919
and confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church,
town of Wein.
He was the fourth of six children, born to Ernest Sr. and Louise (Leffel)
Passehl. He attended Fairchild School in the town of Frankfort. At the age of
18, he went to California to seek employment and returned to the Edgar area two
years later.
Herb married his wife of 65 years, Caroline Lueschow on December 6, 1941, the
day before the attack on Pearl Harbor, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, town of
Wein. They had a dairy farm in the town of Wein and the town of Frankfort for 36
years, from 1941 to 1977.
Herb's family and friends will remember him as “Mr. fix it”, repairing
everything including children’s toys to large machinery. Among his many
interests, he enjoyed playing cards, dartball and playing many instruments,
including, the harmonica, piano, saxophone, concertina and the guitar.
Survivors include, three children, Barbara (Garry) Christiansen, Mosinee, Ardell
(Nancy) Passehl, Prairie du Sac and Rod (Mary Jean) Passehl, Edgar; seven
grandchildren, Robyn (Marge) Christiansen, Scott (Lisa) Christiansen, Todd
(Melissa) Passehl, Cory (Brooke) Passehl, Kelly (Chad) Erickson, Tracy (Chris)
Freund and Ryan Passehl; two step-grandchildren, Amy Alt and Brad (Mindy) Alt;
three great grandchildren, Steven and Derek Christiansen and Ashley Erickson;
two step-great grandchildren, Madison and Drew (Alt) Marshall; and one sister,
Laurene (George) Writz.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Ernest
Jr.; and two sisters, Irene Passehl and Bertha Weyneth.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at St. John Ev.
Lutheran Church, W1000 County Road N, Edgar. Rev. Jeff Tarras will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00
a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar
is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to
St. John’s ELCA Building Fund, town of Wein.
