Roger and Arlene Olson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary n July 19 at Memories Ballroom in Marathon.

He was an Abbotsford graduate and she was an Athens graduate. Roger Olson and Arlene Franz were married June 13, 1964, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens.

After their wedding, Roger and Arlene took somewhat of a permanent honeymoon out to California, where he was stationed in the Navy. He was also stationed in five other locations, including the Great Lakes.

Roger served 20 years in the Navy and worked for 17 ½ years for the postal service until he retired in 2008. Arlene worked several jobs and as a part-time homemaker.

They have four children, Angie Swaney, Neptune Beach, FL; Valerie (Craig) Arbuckle, Seminal, FL; Carmen Crane, Lake City, FL and Daren (Penny) Olson, Green Bay. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

They celebrated their 50 years together with their family and friends, also with Roger’s mother, Mildred Olson, Abbotsford.

Roger enjoys woodworking and Arlene enjoys running, quilting and crafts. They also enjoy the beaches in Atlantic Beach FL, where they’ve resided since Roger’s retirement6 from the Navy, as well as spending time with their family and grandchildren.
