Schaefer, Karen M. (Marriage - 1972)
Miss Karen M. Schaefer became the bride of Richard A. Verschay October 21 at St.
Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. The Rev. Leonard C. Stashek officiated. Nuptial
music was provided by Jeanne, Gayle and Mavis Burger. Parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mr. Werner J. Schaefer of Rt. 1 Abbotsford, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Verschay of Owen.
The former Miss Schaefer approached the altar with her father. Her demi-bell
gown of peau de soi was complimented by a long, mantilla veil and a bouquet of
white daisies.
The bride’s sister, Miss Joette Schaefer of Abbotsford, was maid-of-honor, and
Miss Gayle Burger of Madison, cousin of the bride and Miss Mary Jo Verschay of
Owen, sister of the groom were bridesmaids. Kimberly Schaefer, sister of the
bride, was flower girl.
Attendants of the groom were Larry Hendrickson of Madison, bestman, and William
Verschay of Owen and Robert Rondorf of Loyal, groomsmen. Jeffrey Schaefer,
brother of the bride and James Dergance, Hillside, Ill., cousin of the groom,
shared ushering duties.
A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Trianon Ballroom at Edgar.
The bride is a graduate of Colby High School and of St. Joseph’s Hospital School
of Nursing in Marshfield, and has been employed in the hospital there as a
registered nurse. Her husband graduated from Greenwood High School, attended the
Marshfield-Wood County University Center for two years, and received his degree
in pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1971. The newlyweds will
live in La Crosse, where the groom is employed.
