------ Loos, Mr. & Mrs. Walter (45th Anniversary - 17 SEP 1966)
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Loos of Colby were the guests of honor at a surprise party
and dinner Saturday, Sept. 17, in observance of their 45th wedding anniversary.
The celebration began with a 7:30 p.m. dinner at Medo-Farms Restaurant in
Abbotsford where the anniversary couple were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Sauer, Eunice and Clifford; Darrel and Dean Loos, all of Colby; Mrs. Catherine
Sauer, Medford; Mrs. Veryl Auberg, Owen and Miss Ann Singstock, Colby. Mrs. Loos
was presented a corsage of white carnations with sapphire blue accents, and Mr.
Loos, a white carnation boutonniere.
After dinner, the group drove to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sauer to join
the guests who had arrived for the celebration. Among the guests were all the
attendants of the original wedding party in 1921. They are Mrs. Ben (Esther)
Krohn, Wausau, sister of the bride; Mrs. Ervin (Irma) Fischer, Unity, sister of
the groom; Ervin Riemer, Athens, the bride’s brother and Ed Voelker, Marshfield,
a cousin to the groom. All the attendants were presented corsages and
boutonnieres of white carnations with blue sapphire accents.
Other guests included the marriage partners of the attendants, above; Mr. Loos’
sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Stuempke, Elmhurst, Ill., and relatives,
friends and neighbors from Wausau, Marshfield, Medford, Owen, Athens, Colby,
Unity, Abbotsford, Stratford, and the surrounding area. During the evening the
anniversary couple received a telephone call from their daughter, Mrs. Merton
(Lorraine) Morrow, Virginia Beach, Va.
The home was decorated with blue and white streamers and wedding bells, and
three wedding cakes were provided by Mrs. Veryl Auberg, Owen, Mrs. Wendel
Creasey, Stratford, and Mrs. Irvin Meyer, Colby.
The couple received many cards and gifts. Entertainment included dancing to the
music furnished by friends, and card playing. A late lunch was served by the
surprise party committee.
Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Loos, was born in 1896 in the town of
Schleiswig, Manitowoc county, and received his education at Louies Corners,
Manitowoc county, and at Colby where he and his parents moved during his
boyhood.
Mrs. Loos, the former Nina Reimer, was born in 1902 in the town of Halsey to Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Riemer. She attended schools in the town of Halsey, and lived
there until her marriage.
Walter Loos and Nina Riemer were united in marriage September 17, 1921, at the
Lutheran church in the town of Hamburg, Marathon county, with Rev. Victor Gruber
officiating. They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Herbert (Marcella)
Sauer, Colby; Mrs. Merton (Lorraine) Morrow, Virginia Beach, Va.; Darrel, Colby;
Mrs. Ed (Emilie) Klappel, Stratford, and Dean, at home.
They have 11 grand children.
After their marriage, the Loos’ farmed until 1950, when Mr. Loos became employed
by the Roddis Manufacturing Plant, Marshfield, now known as the Weyerhaeuser
Company. He worked there 14 years, until his retirement two years ago.
They are members of the United Church of Christ, Colby, and Mrs. Loos is a
member of the Women’s Guild and the OAO Homemakers club. Mrs. Robert Riemer has
made her home with them until recently, and is now a patient at the Marshfield
Convalescent home.
