Funeral services for Emil August Laabs, Colby, were held Wednesday at the United
Church of Christ, Colby. The Rev. Kenneth A Dix officiated and burial was in the
Colby Memorial cemetery. Mr. Laabs died Sunday, Sept. 25, at St. Joseph’s
hospital, Marshfield, following several months illness. He was 87 years old.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby.
Emil Laabs was born Oct. 14, 1878, in the town of Green Grove, Clark county. His
marriage to Lulu K. Lehman took place June 16, 1909, at New London. During his
lifetime, Mr. Laabs operated cheese factories in the Curtiss, Longwood and
Dorchester areas. They retired in 1944 and moved to Colby. Mr. Laabs was at one
time a director of the Withee State Bank and was at the time of his death a
director of the Dorchester State Bank. He was also a member of the United Church
of Christ at Colby. Mrs. Laabs died in February of 1957.
Surviving are a son, Norbert of Dorchester; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Fern)
Kasper, Marshfield, Mrs. Harold (Olive) Klessig, Colby, and Mrs. Albert (El
Vera) Schultz, Curtiss; two brothers, Arthur of Neillsville and Ferdinand of
Pocatella, Idaho; 10 grand children and 15 great grand children. In addition to
his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
