Jacobson, Theresa Dorothy (24 April 1903 - 21 November 1972)
Funeral services were held November 24 from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Sherwood for a retired school teacher, Mr. Joseph Jacobson, 69, of Rt. 1
Pittsville, who died November 21 in Neillsville. The Rev. E. T. Keller
officiated and burial was made in the Sherwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Jacobson, the former Theresa Dorothy Gehre, was born April 24, 1903, in
Rock Island, Ill. She came to the Sherwood area with her parents as a young
child, and graduated from Pittsville High School, and also attended Stevens
Point State Teacher’s College.
Her marriage to Joseph Jacobson took place August 24, 1923, in Rockford, Ill.,
where the couple resided until returning to the Sherwood area to farm in 1930.
Mr. Jacobson died May 25, 1970. Mrs. Jacobson had been a teacher for 38 years,
in Clark and Wood County schools, and also taught at the Pittsville Elementary
School until her retirement in 1968. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church and of its Ladies Aid society, and had been the church organist for 39
years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Schwanebeck of Pittsville;
five sons, Russell and Jerry of Rt. 1 Pittsville, Laverne of City Point and
Richard and Earl of Rockford, Ill.; two brothers, Arthur Gehre of Nekoosa and
George Fluegel of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. George (Bernice) Hiles of
Pittsville; and 14 grandchildren.
