Linster, Alphonse P. (8 June 1896 - 3 December 1972)
Funeral services for a retired Neillsville resident, Alphonse P. Linster, 76,
who died here December 3, were held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles D. Brady officiated and burial; was made in
the Neillsville City Cemetery. Parish Council of Catholic Women and general
rosary services were held Tuesday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home, where the
body of Mr. Linster was in state.
Alphonse Linster, the son of Nick, Sr., and Margaret (Boniface) Linster, was
born June 8, 1896, at Bakerville in Wood County and received his education is
area schools. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Linster entered the service at
Neillsville on July 29, 1918, served in Europe, and was discharged at Camp Grant
on May 20, 1919. He was a member of Co. M, 343rd Infantry.
His marriage to the former Mabel Keller took place May 4, 1921, at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Neillsville. He farmed in the town of Weston until retiring
and moving to Neillsville 12 years ago. Mr. Linster was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church and of Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post No. 73.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Allen Linster of Plymouth
and John Linster of Rt. 1 Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. E. R. (Caroline) Weller of
Seattle, Wash.; a brother, William Linster of Penn Yan, N.Y.; and four
grandchildren.
