Laffe, Sheldon Harry (17 July 1921 - 12 August 2014) With Flag
Sheldon H. Laffe, 93, formerly of Black River Falls passed away Aug. 12, 2014,
at Care Partners Assisted Living in Eau Claire. Sheldon Harry Laffe was born
July 17, 1921, in Humbird to Leonard and Mayme (Iffland) Laffe.
He was a 1939 graduate of Humbird High School. Sheldon enlisted and proudly
served in the United States Navy in World War II, having served in the South
Pacific. His family was grateful that in May of this year, he was able to go
with the Freedom Honor Flight from La Crosse to visit the World War II Memorial
in Washington, D.C.
He was united in marriage to Alice L. Lastofka July 6, 1946, in Neillsville. The
couple first lived in Wisconsin before moving to Iowa. They lived in Iowa for
many years. After retiring, they moved to Black River Falls and later to Eau
Claire. They were married for 65 years.
Sheldon loved being outdoors, especially fishing and camping, as well as
spending time with his family and friends. He was a very social person and
enjoyed bowling and golfing. He spent hours in his workshop working on various
wood-working projects and practical jokes. Later, he liked to bicycle in his
neighborhood. He also took great pleasure in conversing and playing pool with
his friend Lee.
He was a member of the Alma Center VFW Post #8494 and the Miles-Hagen American
Legion Post #200 of Black River Falls.
Living family members include three children, Shelly (Joyce) Laffe of Charles
City, IA; Sharri Omer of Houston, TX; and Shawn (Melvin) Seuferer of Eau Claire;
five grandchildren, Kendra (Ben Price) and Kira Laffe; Jeremy and Jessica Omer;
and Anna Seuferer; two great-granddaughters, Mura Marie and Aracelli Sophia; one
sister-in-law, Rose Michels of Alma Center; and several nieces.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice in 2011; and two
sisters, Eileen Laffe and Joyce (Glenn) Hoeth.
Funeral services with military honors were held Friday, Aug. 25, 2014, at 11
a.m. at Buswell Funeral Home in Black River Falls. Pastor Rod Larson of Eau
Claire officiated.
The family greeted friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
Private family committal services will be held at the Mentor Cemetery in rural
Humbird at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Freedom Honor Flight, La Crosse Chapter.
