Miskanis, Nioma A. (24 February 1931 - 16 August 2014)
Nioma A. Miskanis, age 83, of Owen, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at
the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. A Memorial service will be at 11:00
a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2004, at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Withee.
Reverend Tom Myhre will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Riverside
Cemetery in Withee following the service.
Nioma was born February 24, 1931, in Thorp, WI to Peter and Hulda (Meyer)
Turenne. She attended a Catholic grade school in Chicago until eighth grade.
Nioma did manufacture work and was a butcher’s assistant in Chicago. The former
Nioma Turenne was united in marriage to Robert Miskanis on October 12, 1951, in
Chicago, IL. Together the couple moved to a farm in the Town of Longwood, Clark
County, near Owen in 1976 and farmed until 1998. Nioma enjoyed animals of all
kinds, cooking and canning. Her home was always open to all and served as a
refuge from the city for many family members. She was a member of St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Withee and its Ladies Aide.
She is lovingly survived by her five grandchildren: Robert (Beki) Miskanis of
Chippewa Falls, Katy (Mike) Shoup of Marathon City, Sarah Miskanis of
Marshfield, Laura (Doug)Arthur of Sheboygan, and Amanda Miskanis of Stratford;
her great-grandchildren: Logan, Sophia, Samuel and Brenna; daughter-in-law,
Betsy (Brent) Shoup of Neillsville. She is further survived by her siblings:
Glen Turenne, Bernice Turenne, and Inez Haas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and other relatives and friends.
Nioma is preceded in death by her patents; husband, Robert Miskanis; her three
children: David, Keith, and Debbie Miskanis; and her siblings: Alice Gdula, Bud
Turenne, Harvey Turenne; Violet Hendricks, Orma Lorbeck, Verna Grabowski, Erna
Turenne, Frieda Dumalski, and Louis Turenne.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements. Friends may send online condolences.
