We had the privilege of enjoying some thunder showers last Monday night.
The subject of Rev. G.H. Crow’s sermon next Sunday afternoon will be Citizenship
and all of the masculine gender are requested to attend. The feminine gender is
not barred from the service. All are welcome.
Mrs. John Vande Berg and son, Horace, were Granton visitors Monday.
Last Monday afternoon about 5:30 o’clock, Will O’Brien’s barn was burned with
silo, hay, straw, two horses, harness, and all other contents. Just how the fire
started is not known, and when discovered, it was too late to get into the
stable to get the horses out. One of Mr. O’Brien’s horses managed to get out
with but slight injuries. Its mate and a horse belonging to Frank Northup
succumbed to the angry flames. Neighbors far and near came as quickly as
possible after the fire was discovered, and by prompt action the other nearby
buildings were saved. It is a serious loss to Mr. O’Brien and as these items are
written, the correspondent has not learned whether he intends to re-build this
fall or not.
Miss Emma Anderson, teacher in District No. 2, gave a basket social Friday
night. A good crowd was out and the baskets sold well, as she raised $20.15.
Lewis Lawrence visited his sister, Bulah, at Whitewater last week.
Alvin Vande Berg and Melvin Lawrence made a business trip to Marshfield last
Friday.
Harriet, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abie Turner, was taken
seriously ill last Thursday and for nearly three hours the anxious parents
thought she would die, but Dr. Ross was summoned who soon had the little lass
all right again.
Parker Metcalf and family spent Sunday with the Ed. and Percy Northup families.
The L.A. Society will serve dinner in the Woodman hall next Tuesday, election
day.
Some notable improvements were made this fall by Rollie Benedict and Dr. Ross.
